This year, as difficult as it was for Juniper Village to suspend inside visits, residents still received the warmth and kindness of our local volunteers. The Ladies of Charity from the local Catholic Parish of St. Joseph the Worker got to work in their individual kitchens, baking cookies and writing note cards of cheer. They’ve been sending them to Juniper Village at Forest Hills residents each month since May! They were so happy to know that they could still do something to lift the residents’ spirits during this challenging time.
Each month the cookies and cards are dropped off, the volunteers are sure to ask staff to convey the message to the residents that they are truly missed. The residents love getting these little sweet packages, and have come to look forward to them!
In order to show our gratitude for these ladies, Juniper Village at Forest Hills gifted these volunteers with a seasonal bread mix, accompanied by a thank-you note for all they’ve done and continue to do for the residents.
Connections Director Sharon Helminiak said, “Before the pandemic, the Ladies of Charity were a big presence to our residents, facilitating multiple group activities on a monthly basis. They would sing with the residents, laugh, pass out treats, share stories of their own families and just spend time with them, always making sure it was a positive experience. They are absolutely cheerful givers whose kind gestures seem to be endless!”
