Juniper Village at Williamstown

Jersey Fresh Summer

Residents of Juniper Village at Williamstown enjoyed some summertime culinary inspiration!

In New Jersey, summertime is filled with a variety of freshly grown vegetables that can be purchased from the local farmers in the area.  These vegetables include tomatoes, asparagus, peppers, zucchini, cucumbers and many people’s favorite corn on the cob.  Our resident volunteers enjoyed helping for the Farm to Table Luncheon by assisting the dietary department in “Shucking Corn”.  The resident volunteers worked very hard to get their vegetables cleaned “just right”.  During this process, many of the residents enjoyed sharing stories of the times when they were younger and helped their mother clean the corn for the family dinner.  One resident shared that “it was a real treat in the summer time to bite into the freshly grown golden wonder and enjoy the delicious flavor that exploded in your mouth”.  Another shouted out “in her house shucking corn was a family affair”.  The volunteers took pride in helping with the event and were glad to hear the rave reviews from all who attended that it was the best corn on the cob that they ate all year!
