On July 5th, Juniper Village at Louisville Garden House Residents had a blast making a delicious yet very simple apple turnover recipe. They especially enjoyed eating them and that is what National Apple Turnover Day is all about! Also called hand pies because their design makes them portable, apple turnovers have been around since the 17th century. Bakers fill a smaller, flaky pie crust with fruit and fold it in half. Once the edges are sealed, the pie is baked or fried. For added sweetness, a dusting of sugar or icing is added on top. Nearly every culture has a recipe for a turnover in their repertoire. And Juniper Village at Louisville came up with an easy and special recipe. The results were delicious!
