Before we could even think about planting our tomatoes the way we usually do, we noticed a tiny shoot popping out of the soil in an area that never had tomatoes before. We recognized the tiny cluster of leaves as a tomato plant, so we grabbed a nearby tomato cage and put it right over the little plant. We pretty much ignored the plant for weeks until someone noticed a lot of blossoms on it, then later some tiny tomatoes. In no time at all, we counted 40 gigantic tomatoes on this one vine! Some tomatoes were so heavy that they fell off the vine, so we brought them inside to ripen, but others are now being picked and eaten by whomever gets there first, in this case Helen and Betty. The reports are that they taste delicious! There is nothing quite like the taste of a homegrown tomato, especially when eaten just minutes after picking it!
