It is estimated that the average person can have up to 60,000 thoughts per day. Creative activities such as music, art, writing and crafting have been shown to help focus the mind, creating a calming effect on the brain and body, similar to that of meditation. Engaging in creative activities releases dopamine, a natural anti-depressant and helps to combat feelings of isolation. This week at Juniper Village at Mount Joy we got into the creative flow and let those good feelings rise with a little sunshine, a splash of color and a lot of expression. Participants began by selecting the blank white canvas of a summer shade cap or handy tote bag. Then they twisted and banded off sections. Finally, they chose their colors and sprayed away, sprinkling and spattering vibrant colors into the fabric. The finished product? Eye-catching fashionable and functional works of art!
