Mindfulness is the practice of paying attention in the present moment and doing so with non-judgement.
Under the guidance of Jackie Holzel, residents of Juniper Village at Mount Joy embarked on a mindfulness journey that included several stops, visiting many of our senses. We discussed how mindfulness has been a part of our lives or how we wish it to be so. We spent time in silence gazing at the intricate colorings and design of a peacock feather held in our hand. Then we focused and balanced the feather in our palm. We were reminded that things are not always as they first appear as we gazed into illusions focusing our vision to see the hidden picture. Finally, we closed our eyes, focused on a soft but steady heartbeat drum rhythm and were guided into a meditation to find our spirit animal. Our renewed ability to remain focused on the present will continue with us into the future!
