Applewood Place Assisted Living

Meeting the Creative Self

Confidence and community, empathy and expression. These values are paramount in Applewood Place’s, A Juniper Senior Living Community, creative programming!

So far in 2019, we’ve been honing our observational skills through drawing workshops, learning about art movements and how they’ve shaped history and culture (even trying our hand at Dadaist poetry!), and interpreting basic design elements such as value. Applewood’s Art Workshops are a place where inhibitions disappear and the soul comes alive.

Our recently added Creative Writing and Expression Workshops are gaining popularity- fast! These offer our residents a chance to engage in many new ways. Some of our favorite exercises so far this year have been writing haiku and cinquain poetry, fantasy stories, and letters to our younger selves. Through these workshops, our residents enjoy getting to know themselves and their neighbors a little better, and letting their imaginations run wild!

A Springtime haiku by one of our residents:
I feel excited
Do the sprouts need more water?
Sprinkle with the hose
