Americans usher in the new year with diets and lifestyle resolutions galore, but many people across the globe — particularly those from predominantly Catholic countries — celebrate the calendar change with a sweet pastry known as King Cake. Some associate it with Mardi Gras, others with a celebration known as Epiphany.

Today at Juniper Village at Aurora we celebrate Fat Tuesday by making Mardi Gras masks, wearing colorful beads and watching the Mardi Gras Zulu parade all the while feasting on King Cake. Families and residents teamed together making their special Mardi Gras masks, reminiscing about the floats and how the Zulu parade is the best. We celebrated with a parade around Town Hall dancing to the music of Dixieland Jazz.
