At Juniper, we believe it is important to invest in education. Over the last year, Liz Plozner-Chalfa, executive director at Juniper Village Wellspring Memory Care at Brookline, traveled to Juniper Communities in two states to lead their teams in Certified Dementia Practitioner (CDP)® training.
The communities included Aurora and Louisville in Colorado, and Forest Hills, Meadville, Mount Joy, and Lebanon in Pennsylvania. Front-line associates and leadership team members participated in the intensive 12-hour trainings to further their education as professionals in the dementia field. The CDP® certification process provides comprehensive knowledge in the area of dementia care. Individuals completing the program are affirming their commitment to the field of dementia care, and are recertified every two years to keep their skills and expertise sharp. On a practical level, CDP® certification enhances the quality of care for residents by allowing Juniper professionals to better meet each individual’s unique needs and preferences.
“If you meet one person with dementia, you’ve met one person with dementia,” explains Plozner-Chalfa. “Each individual we are caring for has their own unique life histories, experiences, and medical needs. By increasing our knowledge of the disease, we are better able to respond to our residents in a personalized, nurturing way.”
The Brookline community is proud to have Liz’s wisdom and expertise as a Certified Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia Care Trainer®. Congratulations to the professionals in our sister communities for their achievement in the field of dementia care!
