Jackson Pollock was an American painter and a major figure in the abstract expressionist movement. His technique of pouring, splashing and dripping paint are thought to be one of the origins of the term “action painting”. This February as we explore all things art we spent some time learning about the life and works of Pollock. We viewed photographs of his well-known pieces, took a virtual tour of his home and studio and discussed his style. Given that the best learning is experiential we put our art in action and took to the canvas to try out our own version of pour painting. Layering paints with various viscosities into a cup, flipping it upside down and watching the paint fluidly move into its destined design. The process while messy was fun and mesmerizing and the finished products are fit for frame!
