Going Green at Applewood Place

Here at Juniper Applewood Place, we’ve added a fully hydroponic grow station in our Lounge! Simply put, a hydroponic garden is one that is grown without soil, instead using nutrient rich water circulated over the roots of the plants. Growing with hydroponics comes with many advantages, the biggest of which is a greatly increased rate of growth in the plants. A hydroponic system will also use less water than soil based gardens because the system is enclosed, which results in less evaporation. Believe it or not, hydroponic growing is better for the environment because it reduces waste and pollution from soil runoff! Another great advantage of a hydroponic garden? It can be inside, of course, allowing harvest throughout the year regardless of typical growing seasons! This means we don’t need suppliers or stores, we can simply harvest the most fresh herbs and vegetables right here, the moment they’re ready! Our residents can’t wait to harvest our first batch or cilantro, seen growing here.
