Juniper Village at Lebanon

Flag Day Ceremony

Flag Day 2020 was celebrated in a way that was a little different than in years past.  Rev. Warren Hoopes and his wife Katherine came up with the idea of celebrating Flag Day by inviting other Independent Living residents of Juniper Village to gather around their flag pole for a short ceremony.  About 16 residents and even one little dog made the trek to the Hoopes’ residence on a beautiful, sunny 70 degree day.  Everyone stood for the Pledge of Allegiance and the National Anthem, and then sang four more patriotic songs, accompanied by Katherine Hoopes on the violin and Becky Duke on the keyboard, ending with a stirring rendition of “God Bless America”.  It was wonderful to be able to chat with some neighbors whom we hadn’t seen in several months!  The beautiful American flag blowing gently in the breeze was just icing on the cake!
