What better way to celebrate the tastes of summer than with a Farm-To-Table Day event! On Wednesday, August 19 Juniper Village at Forest Hills celebrated summer with a Farm-to-Table theme day.
The Connections Department started the day with a Mobile Farmer’s Market Cart that went room-to-room with fresh produce samples. Residents selected from watermelon, red grapes, bananas, fresh peaches, cucumber, and red pepper sticks. And to keep hydrated, aromatic strawberry-mint infused water was offered.
That afternoon, Dining Manager Kevin Robertson made a trip down the street to Braddock Farms. Part of Grow Pittsburgh, Braddock Farms is an inner city farm that fosters community gardening at a variety of farms located throughout the Pittsburgh area. Through Grow Pittsburgh, local residents learn how to grow vegetables, combat food insecurity, and help families save money by providing them with fresh local produce.
With the items purchased at Braddock Farms, Kevin and his team created a delicious, Farm-to-Table meal. The entree featured zucchini lasagna with homemade marinara sauce, and a tossed salad with plenty of local vegetables.
At Juniper Village at Forest Hills, we make it a priority to enjoy delicious, seasonal produce at its best!
