While we were outside enjoying our courtyard and vegetable garden, we got a surprise visitor at Juniper Village at Lebanon. It was a female Black Swallowtail butterfly! We later found out that the Black Swallowtail is the state butterfly of New Jersey, our neighbors to the east, so it is not unusual to see Black Swallowtails in Pennsylvania. This one stayed for quite a while enjoying our Italian parsley plant!
